Fort Sumter

Recently, on our trip to Charleston, we visited Fort Sumter.  This is where the first shot was fired that started the civil war.  Most of the canons at Fort Sumter are originals that were used at the Fort.  The government thought they had been destroyed when many years later they found them buried.  What a nice treasure to have found! The kids really enjoyed reading and witnessing the history of the civil war. We only had one hour on the Fort before our boat left to take us back on the mainland.  I wish it had been longer!
